Elemental

The Elemental Planes are home to a variety of Elemental spirits that can coalesce from their material. Each plane generally has one or more Deity level spirits, a power comparable with a grand deity. These highest spirits exercise powerful control over the plane and all lesser spirits. When a breach is formed, either naturally or through magic, these spirits can enter the mortal world. Much like The Fey, these spirits can range from the equivalent of mindless monsters and animalistic intelligences to highly intelligent sentient creatures.
The lesser Elemental creatures generally behave according to the nature of their composition. Fire spirits are quick and voracious, seeking to grow and consume. Earth spirits are generally patient, slow and sturdy but prone to occsaional outbursts of incredible action. Wind spirits are free flowing and airy though lightning or storm spirits can sometimes be aggressive or violent. Water spirits tend to reflect their origin, lake spirits are calm and serene while spirits of ocean waves can be quite forceful.
More intelligent Elemental beings can possess intelligence equal to or greater than mortal species. These beings are more capable of acting in complex ways, even ways which briefly oppose their nature. They can have independent will but generally only act in furtherance of the Primal Elemental being's will.
Primal Elementals are the highest echelon of Elemental spirits. They have limited omniscience and omnipotence within their domain and act with their own long term agendas. In ages past they vied with the Grand Deities and mortals to invade Soma but were eventually repelled.
