Pale Blue Eyes in Slumbering Gods | World Anvil

Pale Blue Eyes

I took a step closer to him. He looked...awful. His perfect, curly brown hair was long, matted, and unruly. Some of it was plastered onto his face with dried blood. His nails were ripped and torn. His long, spider-like fingers were bloody and bruised. He lay on the ground staring up at the sky.

"Are you...." I stuttered to a stop. His eyes. I looked down at them. No longer the gorgeous, dreamy caramel I once knew, but a dead, pale, blue.

He continued staring at the sky, "Who are you?" he choked out. "It's me." I said, before stuttering out my name. His head slowly turns to my voice, before he fixes his pale eyes on mine, "Hi." He says. His voice is quiet and rough, as if he hadn't had a drink of water in days.

"Are you...okay?"

His chapped lips form a smile, "Sort of." He starts to laugh, only to start coughing up blood.

I quickly roll him onto his side. His coughs die down. He looks at me again, "How are you?" He stutters.

"Good." I say, "What happened? Why are your eyes...blue?"

"Is that what they look like?"

I nod.

"I'm sorry, I'm not ever going to be able to see your face again. But now I know, right?"

"Know. Know what? I don't know. What are you talking about? What did you do?" I grab his hand and hold it tight, "What..."

"Why didn't you just tell me?" He gives spluttering cough.

"What--"

"Why didn't you just tell me you loved me?"

"I--How--"

He gave me another small smile, before he took a shaky breath and released it. The grip on my hand loosened, and his eyes turned up toward the light gray sky. While I stared down at his pale, ice blue eyes.
