Skeyer Entrance

Description: The entry to Skeyer was adapted from a preexisting system of deep sea caves. These run underneath the dome, from an entry around half a mile from the edge of Skeyer, to the edge of Skeyer in sector 1. The opening consists of double doors which limit the water that follows vessels into the cave. After a vessel enters the caves, a system of drains flushes the water back into the ocean. The conveyor belt that brought vessels into the main atrium has long since broken, but the system of ball-bearings that used to move themselves still make pushing the vessels manually possible. The atrium itself is packed with vessels, most abandoned long ago from the founders, some more recently introduced by the Ekonians, one, though it is unknown which, belonged to the Prophet. Though none leave the Skeyer entirely, some pilgrims visit this atrium for its holy significance. History: The entrance was built centuries ago in anticipation of the arrival of the wealthy patrons of the project. After the Skeyer dome itself was made, ports which could accommodate sizable submarines were put on place on either end of the cave system, and the walls were secured, any side passages sealed off. After that, the water filling the caves was pumped into Skeyer itself – pumping this much water into the immense pressure of the ocean outside was utterly infeasible, so instead it was purified, and seeded Skeyer’s first reservoir. When the founders moved into Skeyer permanently, their vessels were abandoned in the atrium of the tunnels. The segment of Skeyer they first entered through the tunnel, which would eventually be called “sector 1”, became the site of the government’s headquarters. It was never expected that the tunnels would be used again, though it was allowed, but a century later the Prophet entered through them, bringing the Essence with him. Sector 1 now became a holy site as well as the government’s headquarters. Though the tunnels were now holy, because of the decree of the Faith, passed down from the Prophet himself, exiting Skeyer entirely was forbidden. It was never expected that anyone would enter it. Once more the Conarians were surprised, when two centuries later, the Ekonians arrived, bringing their own magic.
