Hamish Gonlap

Written by onegalnamedsal

Hamish Portil Gonlap

“Every day’s the same. I’m here, washing the same old glass with the same old rag. It’s a happy life. A simple life.”
Hamish Gonlap.
Hamish is a common face in King’s Bay. He’s the one and only bartender, waiter, chef and receptionist at The Lazy Dragon. If you want to know anything, you can guarantee that Hamish knows what you want to know. Where he actually lives is unknown to most people, however some of his closest friends know exactly where he goes when the last drunkard falls unconcious on the table.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Hamish may be missing an eye, but he’s still able to walk on two legs. His days of running from the law are over, but he still has the muscle to run faster.

Facial Features

Hamish has one large, brown eye, and another eye socket filled with a disproportianate glass eye. Although they’re fairly useless, he still chooses to wear glasses out of pure habit, and he feels that they make him look distinguished.   He also sports a large, surprisingly fluffy, dark brown beard that only he knows what contains. Could be anything from carrots to a small knife!

Apparel & Accessories

Hamish can always be seen wearing his apron. It’s a miracle it’s survived this long without falling to shreds!

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Soon after Hamish was born, his father went out to sea and never returned. His mother was always expecting him to return, and so always cooked three portions of food, however Hamish’s father never came home, and so Hamish always was given the third portion.   After his mother died, Hamish ventured out from their small home in Freyfrost to attempt to dispell the grief and, hopefully, find his father. He stopped when there was no more land to walk upon, in King’s Bay. He then purchased a small house, which he adapted into a tavern. As more and more customers began to stop by the tavern, he expanded it with whatever materials he could gather and soon realised that he couldn’t afford the upkeep of the tavern and keep stock topped up. It was at this point that he founded the King’s Bay black market.   He found a small cave under the dock and slowly made it more habitable in his spare time. After he had made it big enough, he began to quietly approach the “dodgy dealers” in King’s Bay.
“It’s dangerous to be selling out ‘ere these days. Tell ya what, come down to my new place and I’ll let you sell there, free of charge! Deal?”
This was the gist of what Hamish said to potential sellers, and after a few strange looks, he finally managed to get some sellers. People began to hear of the new market, and in the dead of night, when the watch was changing, they snuck under the docks and bought weapons, potions, and other mysterious items for their adventures.   In the present day, Hamish has made a large profit from charging storage space down in the market, and so is slowly making his tavern a clean establishment that he can one day pass on to his children.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Building his business from the ground up is always an achievement in Hamish’s book. He just wish his mum was still here to see what he’d achieved.

Wealth & Financial state

Hamish possesses a fair amount of gold pieces, but doesn’t wish for anyone to know the exact number.
