Soul Spheres

Mechanics & Inner Workings

A Soul Sphere enhances ones natural abilities and can grant the power to take the abilities of others, at a price. Abyssal Energy (detailed in its own article) is less of a force in itself an more of a transference of power and ability. The sphere itself does nothing but hold the abyssal energy safely when the user does not wish to be Corrupted. In brief the sphere works by corrupting and empowering the targeted creature causing them to make a DC 12 constitution save, the DC increases for each use of a corruption point. Once a creature is corrupted all attacks receive a +5 to hit and to damage, spell slots regenerate over time, and breath weapons recharge on twice as many numbers on the dice. If this causes the recharge to be every number the breath weapon does not need to recharge. Any regeneration ability is doubled. However the creatures health points are reduced by 1/2. If the creature is defeated than the creature who infected it gains on of the infected creatures Abilities at the DM's discretion.

When Used By A Player

When a player uses a soul sphere to activate their abyssal abilities their health is cut in half for the duration of the ability and one (1) turn after. If the ability is a concentration spell then the reduced health lasts until the spell ends. Any spell gained through a Soul Sphere has on spell slot per times corrupted. For example if a player corrupts a mage and steal fireball as a spell they have one cast of fireball in the orb, upon stealing that spell again they get on slot per day. upon a fourth steal of the spell the player gets 2 slots and so on. Any breath weapon abilities can only recharge while the orb is active. Any regeneration abilities only take effect while the orb is active and can only heal up to the halved hp value.

These orbs were crafted by God-King Agemither for his lieutenants and generals saying: "with these, we shall acquire power to rival the Avatars of Gods!"
