{SC23} AnExAr

The AnExAr (Annexe d'Extraction Archéologique ; best translated as Anciliary Archaeological Extraction Organisation) is a criminal organisation specialised in the "recovery" of pre-cataclysmic artifacts, either from protected sites, museums, storage facilities or even the private homes of archaeologists and wealthy people who own such artifacts. Far from being noble, their goals in obtaining such artifacts is to resell them to the highest bidder, even accepting requests as long as they're offered enough money to cover for their efforts.

Structure

The AnExAr is a worldwide organisation that has branches in most of the most archaeologically significant areas of the planet. The siege of the organisation, and the first branch ever created back in [year], is located in the City-State of Kanuyaji, where it thrives on the bustling underground activities that make them both hard to find, and prosecute.   The head of the organisation, jokingly referred to as "Chief Extractor", is a very secretive person, and neither their face or identity is known, save for the two higest-ranking members below them.   Most subsidiary AnExAr agencies have a rather flat hierarchy. At the top is a board of directors, which answer to the regional board (regions being at most 5 - 7 agencies), which answers to the General Board. Inside an agency, however, there isn't really a hierarchical relationship between the four main units that ensure the agency works well, those being :
  • Search Parties : People charged with retrieving the artifacts that the Research team has more or less located prior. A significant portion of the search parties are TK.
  • Archives and Storage : People tasked with keeping a trace of the artifacts going through each Agency, and insuring their safety until they are properly given back to whoever ordered them.
  • Administrative & Research : People insuring that the Agency works well, stays out of the law's reach, and locate the artifacts they are asked about. Often include people that work in actual museums, archaeological storage facilities, or have a way to get to those people.
  • Communication : People who handle contact with would-be buyers, outsiders, potential recruits.
  • Archaeological Dpt : Not all agencies have an Archaeological department, which ensures artifacts are properly authenticated, but Agencies can call upon an Authenticator as necessary.

Public Agenda

The AnExAr's existence is an open secret. Their public image above board is that of an organisation that deals in legally acquired artifacts and art pieces of high value, for a certain elite. Behind the scenes, however, those legally sound activities only make for 10% of all transactions within the group on a global scale, and the select, powerful clientèle make sure they do not get bothered by the law.   The main ambition of the AnExAr at a global level is, of course, a lucrative one, but some have heard from the Chief Excavator that there is an element of rebellion against their original government, that strongly restricted access to archaeological information, artifacts, and the like, hiding them under so many layers of carefully crafted narrative that they could not trust it anymore to be the truth, and their own personal search of truth translated itself by providing these artifacts, which are all studied meticulously before they are ever sold. The irony of the name of the organisation, then, would not be quite so ironic, considering its hidden goal.
