Energy Blindness

A fictional illness.
When Shifter or any creature that relates to Energy aren't able to sense a kind of Energy. It's similar to color blindness. You can energy blind to more than one kind of energy, up to all seven kinds of energy. Additionally you can be worse at sensing a kind of energy, like being hard of hearing. You can still sense it, it's just harder.

Transmission & Vectors

Energy blindness isn't infectious. It operates the same way being blind, deaf, color blind, hard of hearing, etc. works. It can be genetic or in some cases, though it's more rare, come from an injury. When you're born with Energy Blindness, you're more likely to only not be able to sense one Energy. Then more than one Energy, then all energies. 
Even rarer is losing the ability to sense more than one but less than all 7 energies from injury. Usually when you get injured you either lose the ability to sense one of them or all of them.

Causes

The cause of Energy Blindness isn't 100% sure. The two leading theories are Energy Blindness is caused when whatever connecting the brain and Energy system is hurt or broken, or when the Energy system doesn't work as it should and just plain doesn't sense that kind of energy.
Genetic Passed down from parents to kids. Moms and Dads are equally likely to pass it on. Unless of course one of them has a (family) history of Energy Blindness. The point is females and males are equally likely to pass it on.
Injury There's lots of different possibilities for injuries that cause Energy Blindness. They don't always cause Color Blindness, but they can.

• Overexerting your Energy.
• Getting hit with a huge blast of pure Energy.
• Unprofessionally getting your Energy sucked out.
• Concussions.
• Other serious physical or mental trauma that's unrelated to Shifting or Energy.

Symptoms

There is no symptoms besides being unable to sense a certain kind of Energy. So many Shifters with mild Energy Blindness don't know they have it until later in life.

Treatment

There is no treatment for genetic or permanent/chronic Energy Blindness. Injuries can heal themselves sometimes, but it's not guaranteed. The only way to help them heal is being in an environment with lots of your kind of Energy.

Prognosis

Energy Blindness rarely ever gets worse. The only cases where it's gotten worse is when you get Energy Blindness from overexerting your Energy then continue to overexert your Energy. It becomes more sensitive.
