Glow Oil

Found most commonly in glass and steel barrels, Glow Oil is the power that makes the modern world turn. Atlanteans were the first to find a way to render the fats of the Titan Sharks into this glowing yellow oil. Engineers found that a single gallon of the stuff could power trains for 240 miles per ton of cargo; this was a massive upgrade to the coal that was being burned by the ton. Glow Oil has been surpassed by the Tesla Tube for portable power but is still to date the primary source of power for the modern world of the Empire.

Utility

Glow Oil is burned in pressure combustion systems that use the heat and pressure generated to power machinery.

Manufacturing

Ships bring Titan Sharks to waterside slaughterhouses where the meat, skin, bone, and fat are separated. The meat is sent further down the line to be butchered and packaged. The bone and skin are cleaned and sent to be crafted into luxury goods. The fat is crushed and ground into a fine paste and piped into submarine boilers to be rendered and purified. After being processed, the now Glow Oil is barreled and sent out to distribution.

Social Impact

With the advent of cleaner more efficient Glow Oil, power became vastly more affordable. The common man saw cheaper transportation by land, sea, and air. Not to mention electric power and heating becoming readily available in major cities and towns.

Access & Availability

Glow Oil is primarily on the East Coast, where the Titan Sharks are hunted in droves. Shipping Glow Oil is difficult due to its volatile nature, but some barrels have made their way to the west. The most common practice is to burn the oil to charge Tesla Tubes which are much easier to ship.

Discovery

Titan Sharks, only found in the Atlantic, were first hunted for sport, population control, and meat. History has lost the name of the inventor of the refining process. @Atlantians found a process that could render the fatty tissues into a glowing yellow oil that burned with excellent efficiency and heat.
