Recent Activity

Over the past few weeks matters have intensified within Sharn. Patriotic Brelish violence has begun to hit the streets. People have looked to The Bears as the culprits for what they see as xenophobic attacks targeting Cyrans and Warforged. Duran has of course denied all such accusations, and has pointed to their organisations peaceful protests in the past.

Everything culminated two weeks ago when during one of these protests two children where killed within The Blackrock Corporation mine. It is said that the children went into the mine to protest with their parents not knowing that the BRC were scheduling for demolitions below. When the explosion happened it caused a large boulder to break off from the wall crushing the two children.

The Bears of Breland used this incident as justification for their takeover of the mine. All through the night they called on the citizenry to gather to take over the mine by camping within it, preventing anyone from carrying on their work. Thousands gathered and stormed the camp. Violence erupted, as the Cyrans - many of whom were now living at the mine, defended themselves against what they felt was a xenophobic attack. The Sharn Watch and Brelish Army was forced to intervene and split up the opposing forces, all after the loss of hundreds of lives. The Sharn Council stepped in and forced the BRC to stop all operations immediately.

Duran has been visibly distraught over the events at the mine, and has cooperated completely with the army Although the level of interrogation applied to Duran has been brought into question due to his relationship with the army, many of whom still see him as their commander and war hero.

History

The Bears of Breland were formed by Duran after the end of The Last War. At the end of the war many soldiers were left lost and confused. They felt out of place, out of sync with time, with no purpose after fighting for their whole lives. Many began to gather in drinking halls and taverns, regaling tales and glories of old. One such group called themselves The Bears of Breland. At first they were nothing more than a social club, but after unemployment went from days to weeks to months, their motives and rhetoric began to shift.

Duran Helmworth, a veteran of the war and hero to the Brelish people, was one of the loudest voices within this group. He called for action and protest, for the people to let their voices be heard. Banners and posters began to spring up all over Sharn, calling out issues which the organisation took as being unpatriotic. Specific attention was given to the Sharn Council's "Cyran Initiative" and Verem ir'Wynarn's 'New Cyre' proposal. The organisation also carried with it a strong anti Warforged rhetoric, whom they claimed were stealing all the jobs due to their lack of need for sleep and food
