The Blackrock Corporation
Recent Activity
Through political maneuvering The BRC was awarded a mining contract by the Sharn Council, to mine in The Cogs for Khyber Ore - a dark gemstone which has become extremely popular in Khorvaire. At first things began really well for the BRC. After the war, there were plenty of people seeking employment, especially among the Cyran refugees and Warforged who were looking for a sense of identity and purpose. The Cyrans had no place to go, and no money. They were stranded on foreign ground, ground which up until a few months ago they had been burning, attacking and waging war against. No one was willing to give employment to their former enemies. The BRC took the opportunity and were one of the first to put their names forward for the 'Cyran Initiative' - a program developed by the Sharn Council to assist the refugees find employment, and provide food and shelter to the destitute. The Warforged too were ideal miners. They never grew tired, had no problems breathing in the mines below and would be willing to work for far less than the other races. This lead to the BRC pivoting and promoting itself as a ' Reformation' employer. Soon, Warforged and Cyrans accounted for the vast majority of their employees This lead to aggressive labor disputes among the miners, who felt that the Warforged - who many already considered soulless and undeserving of life, were being preferably treated and had stolen their jobs. In addition, many of the Brelish citizens were appalled at the BRC for employing 'The Enemy' and actively began to boycott and disrupt their operations. At the same time throughout Sharn the political organisation known as The Bears of Breland - a militant anti Warforged and Brelish Patriot group - were on the rise. They caught wind of what was happening with the BRC and targeted the corporation with guerrilla attacks and propaganda campaigns. The situation intensified with a number of skirmishes, strikes and protests occurring. It all culminated two weeks ago when during one of the protests two children where killed within the mine. It is said that the two children went into the mine to protest with their parents not knowing that the BRC were scheduling for demolitions below. When the explosion happened it caused a large boulder to break off from the wall crushing the children. The Bears of Breland used this incident as justification for their takeover of the mine. All through the night they called on the citizenry to gather in order to take over the mine by camping within it, preventing anyone from carrying on their work. Thousands gathered and stormed the camp. Violence erupted, as the Cyrans - many of whom were now living at the mine, defended themselves against what they felt was a xenophobic attack. The Sharn Watch and Brelish Army was forced to intervene and split up the opposing forces, all after the loss of hundreds of lives. The Sharn Council stepped in and forced the BRC to stop all operations immediately.Structure
