Millennium Freighters

The "Millennium"-series Freighters form the mainstay of the Disney-Amazon autonomous transport fleet. These cargo ships transport heavy freight goods from continent to continent, driven by the economics of demand and manufacturing and the ever flowing current of currency.

Crew

The Millennium freighters are highly automated, and in theory, can operate entirely autonomously from port to port. In practice, they are often (randomly) accompanied by a crew of 3 to 5 technicians who perform maintenance and repairs, oversee autonomous operations, and as physical security against smugglers and pirates.   A harbor pilot may also board the vessel (or take over remotely) to guide the autonomous systems when nearing designated port facilities.

Propulsion

The Millenium freighters are dual powered, utilizing both high efficiency rigid sails, as well as solar powered electric motors. As a result, the freighters, while slow, can be operated with minimal cost beyond basic maintenance and seaworthiness inspections.

Armor and defense

While the freighters are not equipped with conventional weapons or armor, the Millenium freighters are equipped with defenses to thwart pirates from boarding and seizing control of the vessel, or at least delaying them long enough for a response team to be dispatched. Every freighter is equipped with a Freight Spider intended to help offload its cargo. In addition to this, the Freight Spiders are equipped with a high pressure water cannon to help fight fires and repel boarders.   Millenium freighters are also equipped with a state of the art citadel compartments, from which technicians can hold out against attackers. The citadel also houses critical navigation components as well as the shipboard server hardware. In addition to this, the citadel is protected by a classified alert system called "Disco Picasso".

Communication Tools & Systems

For security reasons, the Millenium freighters contain a minimal transmission equipment. They out outfitted with "dumb" transponders, GPS tracking systems, and communication systems, and do not have smart or interactive systems that would allow a hostile entity to remotely seize control of the ship. Instead, the air-gapped navigation system receives instructions upon departure, and can only switch over to receive final docking instructions over an encrypted harbor pilot channel upon arrival.
