Cult of the Sacred Immortal Chickens
Members of the Cult of the Sacred Immortal Chickens have decided that chickens clearly hold all of the secrets to true immortality, and therefore must be worshiped and studied. Perhaps convolutedly, it is also believed that on an individual basis, chickens should be regularly consumed to prevent them from becoming too powerful. Chickens must be dispatched quickly and humanely and cooked with all due reverence. Chicken feet are particularly considered a delicacy.
Members of the cult regularly wear faux chicken nests on their heads, as it is believed that if they can convince a real chicken to nest there it is a sign of divine favor. This has also led to less scrupulous members planting chicken eggs (both real and faked) in their nest hats, and in an elaborate scheme there was a subset of cultists who decided to gain clout by enchanting full blown faux chickens to carry in their nest hats.
Over the years, several chicken cult manifestos have been published, each purporting to be the definitive study on the secrets of sacred chicken immortality, and each purporting to reveal the ultimate secrets of the divine chicken. This has led to controversy and division among the cultists of the sacred immortal chickens, and one manifesto in particular has been completely banned, as it claims the utter blasphemy that chickens are nothing more than large (and tasty) birds. However, it has a popular underground distribution, as it contains some of the best recipes.
It is considered a capitol offense to abuse (particularly to kick) a chicken, and if one is caught kicking chickens, one will find themselves quickly mobbed upon by angry cultists.
To become a nest wearing member of the cult of the sacred immortal chickens, one is required to acquire at least one chicken for one’s household and convince it to stay. If and when said chicken starts nesting and laying its eggs in its new residence, you may consider yourself a full member of the cult of sacred immortal chickens. The indwelling of a chicken in your household (or on your homestead) is a clear sign of divine acceptance, and one may begin construction of one’s nest hat.
