Chicken (chi kn)

Chickens are small, ground foraging poultry frequently domesticated for the purpose of harvesting eggs and meat. Chickens are known to be a stable food source even during difficult times. Chickens are the only creatures that are known to return to life at dawn even if killed (or even eaten) outside of a Sanctuary zone. They are the only known creature that does not die of old age, nor are they susceptible to disease. They are, therefore, the only known creature to have achieved true, functional immortality. In another quirk of oddity, their eggs are always infertile. No one has seen a chick hatch in all of known history. Yet they continue to persist, populating every town and village, and are occasionally found out in the wilds, often in areas too dangerous for ordinary fowl. Several ancient, lost sites have been rediscovered due to explorers noticing the presence of chickens. For the most part, their odd immortality is simply accepted as a quirky norm. However, over the course of the last few centuries, a cult of chicken worshipers have developed and grown in numbers.
