Overview of Aeris

Aeris is a world recovering from catastrophic world war, and even its most advanced regions have only recently entered a new Renaissance era. Minor Magic is common, and the landscape is peppered with artifacts of Major Magic built by those from before the wars.

A Land Divided

In the 400 years following the fall of Del Cora, the remnants of the great nations of Aeris have cobbled civilization back together as a collection of nomadic tribes, city states, and island nations, with a handful of larger federations and trade alliances. Only the Southern Bar could truly qualify as a nation, though the royal family of the once-great Emerald Chain has begun moving to re-establish their ancient birthright under Queen Kelisse Alden.

Forbidden Link of the Chain

Abandoned by its gods shortly after its creation, Aeris has long been isolated from the rest of the mortal realms by unknown powers. The sanctity of its ethereal borders is jealously guarded by Valharden of the Temple, a mysterious, divine entity of great power. Valharden allows few to cross into Aeris, so those who refuse to submit to his judgement must find other ways to pass in and out of this world. The reasons for this strange celestial isolation are lost to time, though many claim that the monks of Nineseal possess forbidden knowledge of the first age, received from the absent gods themselves.

Geography

The the oceans of Aeris are particularly violent and turbulent. The sea life below the surface is also a constant threat. Between the two, navigation of Aeris has been almost entirely confined to its lands and coasts. Despite this, there have been some successful attempts to cross the oceans by the more powerful nations of Aeris’ history.
