War of Twelve

The Conflict

Outcome

The country stopped tearing itself apart.

Aftermath

A council of twelve was created to rule the country. One tribe was voted as the monarchy and the other tribes would speak to the monarch on behalf of their people. One tribe did not want a monarchy so they left Cascadia and were not heard of again for some time. This made a council of ten with the monarchy made of the eleventh tribe.

Historical Significance

The Island of Cascadia itself was very violent. It had rich resources, but the twelve original tribes that lived on Cascadia fought for control over them. The healing water falls were the most valuable resource that was fought for. In the beginning territories for the tribes kept changing so frequently as they fought for control. THe war was so bloody that travelers began to avoid the Island if they could. The climate was always changing so that one tribe you made a deal with was in control one moment and the next day they had been defeated or pushed back by another tribe that controlled the resources.   It wasn't until one day when a young man named Firth was guarding his tribes territory. They currently were in possession of the land about one of the biggest waterfall of Cascadia. He was patrolling the area near the waterfall when he saw a figure standing at the edge of the pool. It was not a figure he recognized and he brandished his spear at the figure and asked who they were. The figure turned to reveal blue skin, green seaweed colored hair, and coral pink eyes. This was the ocean mother that Firth had heard from stories. He bowed down immediately and asked her forgiveness for brandishing a weapon at her. The mother goddess told him to rise and said, "This war...it saddens me...why do you fight Firth?" He answered, "I fight because my tribe tells me to." "And," she asked, "would you kill the enemy until the very end? Even if they are your kin?" Firth was confused. Of course he would not kill his own kin and told the ocean mother. She frowned sadly, "Dear Firth you are all kin on this Island. I created this island for you all, but you fight over it like children fight over silly toys. You have all forgotten the gift I gave you..." Firth did not understand the goddess' words. "I am a simply man mother, I know not what you speak." "No," she reached to cup his face, "but you will be the one to remember. You will be the one to help bring peace." The ocean showed Firth a vision of why Cascadia had been created and why the wars must stop. It is said that Firth had the ability to share this vision with others. He went at the call of the ocean mother to stop the war and unite the tribes as one again. It was not an easy task and there was still much bloodshed. Eventually however Firth was successful in bringing the tribes together and making peace. It was Firth who suggested a council, but the majority of the people wanted a monarchy and they wanted Firth to be king. Firth was against becoming king, but eventually he bowed to the voice of the people. He had one condition and that was for the council of eleven to still be established. Almost all of the people agreed to this, except for one tribe. They could not abide by the peace despite the vision that they had been shown by Firth. They instead announced that they would leave Cascadia to seek battle elsewhere. They sailed from Cascadia and were not heard from again for quite some time.
