Moon's Death

Written for WA Summer Camp 2021 - Prompt 9
Myth: Detail a myth or fairytale about a prophecy, oracle, fortune-telling or other revelation
Goes down a story, passed from olde to childe, about a time when the Moon will have exhausted all its power and the Sun will have prevailed against the [Celestial Army]. The Sun shall then consume all in its eternal fires, turning the world into a land of ash; the world shall become barren and none shall be able to survive the Sun's terrible reign.

Summary

For as long as time, the Moon has used its immense power to fight the terrible Sun which intends to lay waste to all. To protect its people, the Moon continues to share its power so they can also face battles against the Sun. The Moon goes to such lengths that it tires and loses its shine.   The Moon losing its shine is proof of its almost depleted power reserves and one day it won't be able to regain its shine and power back. The power shared with its people will diminish until it also becomes extinguished and they can no longer face the Sun in battle. The Moon's power that flows in the land and its inhabitants will also cease to exist for being used until they can no longer take any more blows from the Sun. Runes and Sigils won't have the power to work, the blessings that once fed the living will halt, new life won't be.   As the living forget to honour that which lent them power, they become weak and perish. As they forget power is ever-changing but not infinite, they shall become as lost as such power. As they forget that which has given a blessing, they shall lose favour. As they live only for themselves, they shall die alone.

Historical Basis

The myth explains the Ram's reasoning behind the Moon's cycles and passage of time. The Full Moon being the peak of power before it shares its power with the world until almost becoming depleted on New Moon.

Cultural Reception

This is a myth and belief exclusive to the Ram thus not widely believed in other regions. As the Ram tend not to explain much of their beliefs, for thinking it common knowledge, outsiders usually don't know the myths beyond the basics of their belief in the Moon.
