Saint Oleg's Point

A statue of carved granite, depicting Saint Oleg. Saint Oleg was allegedly a priest who led the dragons out of the continent and never returned. Fortunately, neither did the dragons. Many now would tell you it's just a story, but scholars still debate over its authenticity. Nevertheless, a group of people from before the unification of the old northern kingdoms carved a statue in his likeness out of heavy granite and hauled it all the way to one of the farthest east points on the continent, uphill. This statue is argued as evidence of the story being true, since who would go through back-breaking labor over something that never happened?   Saint Oleg as depicted, wears simple robes and has a staff held at his side, like one would a walking stick. He has hair that circles the sides of his head and leaves the top bald, like when one thinks of a monk, and a round strawberry-shaped nose. His eyes stare wistfully over the horizon as he cradles a small stone dragon that sits nestled in the nook of his left arm, seemingly tame.   Some of the hems of the stone robes and bits of the fingertips have crumbled away. The ancient statue is well maintained by monks from a nearby monastery, who peel away vines and weeds. Strangely, the lichen that plasters the boulders and base of the statue doesn't ever seem to go away no matter how hard they try. If the weather is particularly pleasant, they'll all haul chairs to the cliff and hold a midday sermon directly next to the statue. Most of the town will make the trek, and they'll be perfectly happy if you decide to stop by or listen in. Occasionally, lovers young or old, will walk the winding trail up to the monument at night to stargaze romantically.
