WholePort

Basic Information

WholePort is a city stat that is along the Southern coast of Sarion in the Xalibar desert. It was originally built by humans who fled the goblinoids after the Blymmbluviut Invasion of their homeland. The human refugees found a beautiful fresh water lake oasis in the southern parts of the Xalibar desert and decided to build a new home there. The humans built up a small city and were able to defend it by placing the goblinoids in a choke point between the lake and the high sandy cliffs that surrounded the lake.   In the modern day, WholePort, although mostly human, is very diverse. It is home to anyone who is able to make it in the city. As long as you obey their strict laws and are able to survive the cutthroat business and trade within the city, you are welcome. Even goblinoids are welcome in the city as long as they obey the laws there. Because most other countries in the world do not allow many of the evil races inside their cities, it has made WholePort one of the only places where those creatures can freely interact with other races.   Some criticize the WholePort for allowing those evil creatures as it helps them gain wealth and other things they need to do evil acts. While WholePort stays true to their policy of "if they obey our laws, they are welcome." Again some say that this is dangerous for the neighboring countries they are often attacked by these evil creatures.   The city itself is ruled by a Plutocracy of the most wealthy of the city who often buy their way onto the city council. They decide many of the laws and trade rules within the city. Although there is a elite police force that maintains the cities laws, most of the city is protected by the people who live in it. Many of the residents of the city at the very least know how to swing a sword, many others have powerful magic or other powers. The people band together to protect their city whenever threatened because one thing almost every resident can agree on is that they don't want to lose their home.   The city allows for practice of evil magics and worship of evil beings as well as many evil creatures being allows in the city as long as they obey the cities strict laws. Some of these are simple things like, no assaulting or killing anyone in the city, no theft or extortion, as well as many others. The way the city sees it, as long as no one breaks any laws, they don't care what flavor of evil they may be. The city is focused simply on growth, trade and wealth.

Geography

WholePort is set along the northern bank of Lake Doam a large fresh water lake in Southern Xalibar. Lake Doam is fed by the Vizzeral River and a branch of the Wetstone Waters, the lake dumps into the Southern Sea. Northwest of WholePort is the Vizzeral Valley, WholePort stays out of the conflicts there. To the East are the Wetstone Waters, a series of countless small rivers that all flow over the sandstone flats. All around WholePort are sandstone mountains and cliffs, rivers, a few small hills and some small patches of trees around the lake.

The City

The city is very large, most of it does not go very far inland, instead it expands around the bank of the lake, this means you could walk from the docks to the farthest buildings inland in perhaps twenty minutes, while it would take hours to walk from one end to the other. Most of the reason the city expanded along the bank of lake was for easy access to the docks and ports that ships stop at.   Because the city is so diverse, there are many different styles of architecture in the city. Styles of building and types of housing are different all throughout the city. Some of the only restrictions on the architecture in the city is based on the availability of resources around the city. But for many of the cities most wealthy merchants, this does not stop them as they get imports of woods and stone from all over Sarion.    As the city is so allowing of anyone to come into the city, there are many organizations and guilds that have some headquarters in the city. There could be a temple to the demon lord Orcus right next to a holy temple to Bahamut.
