Dwarves

Dwarves in Sarion

Dwarves are one of the most ancient races in Sarion. First born in the far northern reaches of Sarion, They named these northern lands, Aranore. They rarely left their mountain homes in the cold. Over the long history of the dwarves there are countless tales through their history. Battles against all manner of foes, from giants and dragons, to orcs and goblinoids. The long history of dwarves also comes with many stories of conflict between the dwarves. (for more information on one of these conflicts, see The Dwarvern Civil Wars)   The stone tablets of the dwarves dates back farther into the past then any other of the other humanoid races recorded texts. As far back as 800 years before AEA. This ancient lore is highly sought after by many researchers including the high elves. But the dwarves keep these ancient tablets well guarded. It is said that they even hold details of a time when the gods were more active in the material plane.   In the current day in Sarion, the dwarves live in the United States of Aranore. a Jarl rules over each state in Aranore, each one being elected in their own way to represent their state to the high king in InorHeim. The entire country is very united and the individual states work together constantly. But the dwarves are also very protective of their lands and are wary of allowing others free reign into their lands. This caution on allowing others inside their country has lead to well protected borders with border crossing where they take extensive documents on each person they allow in. They rarely involve themselves in events outside their borders, unless it threatens their own people.   They hold very close to their traditions and are ingrained in their old ways. Holding law above almost anything else, Most of what the dwarves do is already dictated by their traditions and laws they have built up. Dwarves are a tight knit family, each one considers any dwarf a close relative, that they just may not know very well.

Sarion Dwarf Traits

I use the standard traits for Dwarves that are offered in the Player's Handbook and the Duergar subrace from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes.

Mountain Dwarves

The mountain dwarves are the ones who often live in the far norths of Aranore. They often either live in the mountains in the north or in small hamlets built of stone in the frigid cold. They often wear armors made of heavy furs woven with dwarvern steel, making powerful and also warm armor.

Hill Dwarves

Hill Dwarves live near the southern edges of Aranore and are often the ones to explore outside the Aranore borders. They are a bit more social then their mountain dwarf brothers and welcoming to outside races, but are still very close to their clan.

Duergar

The Duergar in Sarion are a race of dwarves who were trapped deep in ancient ruins in the underdark and were forced to forge a pact with Asmodeus in order to survive the many dangers of the underdark, including the drow. Years after they escaped the underdark, the race split. Half of them condemned Moradin for not aiding them, while the other half forgave him and strived to earn back his favor. All Duergar are looked at with suspicion and caution, but some may be accepted in some of the towns in Aranore. The largest clan of Deurgar that have been nationally accepted as being non evil are the Tharram Clan.
