Cazakahn
The ostensible capital of the Southcliffs, Cazakahn hosts a massive city set atop a mesa that scrapes the sky.
Demographics
Humans form a majority of the population, mostly immigrants from the Ulasian Empire. Next are gnomes and dwarves who handle a lot of the mining operations followed by dragonborn and goliaths who handle manual labor. Finally there a smattering of most other races, earth genasi foremost among them.
Government
Cazakahn is run by a regional governor assigned by the Ulasian Emperor who also happens to be the leader of the Black Moon Company, a mercenary named Viktor Mazan. Under him there is a certain loose martial law wherein the soldiers underneath the governor are the extent of the law, each one given the authority of judge, jury and executioner.
Defences
The city itself is built upon a large mesa that raises the entire city nearly 500 feet above the ground. If an invading army is able to scale those slopes, they will find themselves fighting against the beast-men of the Black Moon Company who's ranks are bolstered by machines of war.
Industry & Trade
The Ulasian Empire won't let this city go under and fund the exploits of favored citizens almost without any expectation of return. Without the resources found in Cazakhan, many of the divining rituals of the Oculus would be unable to be conducted. Additionally, Akhal Technologies has proved invaluable for the research and development needed to compete with the religious determination of the machinists of the Rizon Dominion.
The ability to subvert exporting of the raw materials from the Cazak mine by having the factories and artisans within the main city, allows Cazakahn to maintain its survival.
Infrastructure
Within Cazakhan, many jewelers and metallurgists are in high regard as craftsmen but have been co-opted into factories to serve the construction of Airships and other vehicles. A majority of this is done by Akhal Technologies who have many factories in a block around the city. The Great Cazak Mine supports these construction efforts and provides employment in one way or another, to the majority of the city's laborers. The rest of the population is filled with herders who operate in the artificial grasslands created around the mesa that the city is built upon.
Guilds and Factions
Dominated by the aforementioned Akhal Technologies and Black Moon Company, industry and defense are nearly monopolized by these two forces. Religion in the city is handled by the Temples of Atria and the Watchtowers of Ulasis. Currently, open worship of non-pantheon deities is outlawed but tribal idols are still alive in the hearts of the people.
Herders in the surrounding grasslands are usually family units and do not have guild representation.
The overseers of the Cazka mine used to be powerful but have since become subservient to the whims of the Empire.
