Goblinoid

Goblinoids are a group of three closely related races: goblins, bugbears and hobgoblins. In common speech, the term goblin is often (confusingly) applied to the entire group of races.   The different goblinoid races are vastly different in both mental acuity and physical size. They do however share a common ancestry, which is evident in their flat noses and faces, hunched backs and and stubby claws which excel at digging. All goblinoids also have pointed ears, somewhat similar to those of elves.

Subspecies

Goblins (or lesser goblins) are physically lithe and wiry, and they are often bullied into submission by their bigger cousins, due to their diminutive size and cowardice. They generally live in small tribes in secluded parts of the world. They are the only goblinoid race which has a functional tail, the other two only possess the vestigial remains of one.    Bugbears are the hairiest and most physically robust of the races, and their society is warlike and centered around physical prowess. They are the most numerous of goblinkind.   Hobgoblins are built lither than their bugbear cousins, but they make up for this with heightened intelligence and cunning. Their society is more refined and militaristic, and they are more adept at arts and architecture. They are the only goblinoids which regularly engage in the arcane arts.

Culture

Most goblinoids speak the goblin language known as Ghukliak. It is however rare to find it in its written form outside of hobgoblin society, namely the realm of Mor Ughol.

Religion

Though goblinoids have a common pantheon, the methods of worship and the importance placed on specific deities differs wildly by subspecies.   An increasing number of goblinoids are turning to the worship of Armok, a god who claims to hold all the gods of the primal peoples under his banner. This new faith is especially prevalent in the regions subject to Ngorug's Host.
