Session V: diving at Cove Reef

General Summary

(21st-27th Patchwall)- everyone starts working on refurbishing the "Haunted" house, each getting their own bedroom, except Zaria, who's keeping her apartment in town. Anders Solmor and Acantha Pennyworth Solmor send out two servants from their house and two guards to help their sister set up house. They came out to visit for dinner on the 27th. By now, nearly everything has been repaired. Even though there is a shortage of furniture so far, all the rooms are livable.   Eda Oweland, in the meantime, asked Grogu and Whimbrel to go look into the Cove Reef nearby, as some of the fishers refuse to go back there after "strange doings underwater".   (1st Ready'reat) Going there, all found the water especially clear and not very deep, so they could dive easily or see things from inside their boat. They found a cave, its inside lined with glowing crystals, and a huge statue of a clam. These they deduced were related to the worship of Ogrorlo an aquatic abomination who ruled over merfolk or aquatic elves some long time ago.   Moving deeper into the cove, they found two aquatic elves, who tried to lure them into the tentacles of an anenome. One of these two was killed, the other grappled and subdued.   He gave his name as Taldas , of the Manaan. He said they were scouts for the tribe, concerned about the menace that had pushed them out of their normal hunting waters. He and his companion were nosing about this taboo reef, looking for old treasures. Zaria wanted to negotiate an alliance against the slavers/pirates/smugglers with the aquatic elves, and Taldas agreed to try. They would all meet up 8 nights from now, at the standing stones in Saltmarsh harbor.   Returning to town, all were in time for the Saltmarsh Council's regular meeting. Gellan Primewater had several of his supporters in the room, though he didn't appear nervous at all. Captain Eliander Fireborn had to report that several of the imprisoned smugglers had escaped the chain gang, and that his several squads that had been patrolling the Dreadwood had come up empty.   Nevertheless, the Council wanted to pursue what leads they had against the smugglers from the Haunted house. Among the books the PCs had recovered was a lantern and a code for signalling a ship at sea, and a schedule for the nights of the new moon-- three nights from now. The players, chiefly Eliandra , were tasked with ambushing the ship when it arrived and seeing what was what. Two Watchers from the town would be added to their group as reinforcements.   (3-5 Ready'reat) These are the nights of the next new moon, but there would be no rendezvous with any ship, as a hurricane blew in from the southeast! All our companions were buttoned down in their new house, which suffered only light damage from the blow, thanks to their diligent repair work.
