Birren (b-IH-r-eh-n)

The Birren are a nomadic people who journey around the Saldak Lake.

Ralur's Guidance

The Birren people travel along the paths made by the Ralur fruit. They stay in a place long enough to harvest the fruit and replant it for their next visit. They use the Ralur fruit to Express their Sarik in one of two Abilities: that of the Voc, to manipulate sound waves and vibrations, and that of the Chron, to slow or speed their relative time. One can only consume the Ralur and use it to Express their Sarik if they have the Mark of the Birren. At birth, a member of the Birren Tribe is given an emblem on their forehead, written in the juice of the Ralur. It is not implanted in the skin, rather it is simply spread onto it. The Mark of the Birren stays until the time of its user's Sarik's departure, and will not fade or rub off.

Dress

The Birren live with a species of wolf known as Gimur (g-IH-m-oo-r). Their coats range from white to black. The Birren raise the Gimur Wolves, and many have them as pets. Whenever one of them dies, their coat is repurposed to help clothe the people. Males wear vests and long pants going to their malleolus, whereas females wear blouses and a-line skirts going to their shins. The Birren, like the Sonri, do not wear shoes or socks.

Culture

The Birren Tribe's culture revolves around two main concepts: Dirus (d-EE-r-oo-s) and Suris (s-OO-r-ee-s).

Dirus

Dirus is the belief of the Birren people that every activity has its own independent proper time. It is held with near sancrosanctity, such that one who disturbs another while in the middle of an activity is held with a certain stigma. It is considered socially correct to wait for someone to finish their pursuit before asking to partake in one together.

Suris

Suris is the Birren belief that every object and action has vibrations. It is common Birren practice to spend some time in meditation, concetrating on feeling vibrations in themselves and the world around them. Some Birren have trained themselves well enough to be able to tune in to very low levels of vibrations in a very short time. It is a belief of Suris that vibrations are the simplest form of sound, and that sound is a very complex vibration. Some Birren philosophers have theorized that vibrations have their own Sarik, but no proof to support this has been found.

Government

The Birren People are led by a Kiregisur (k-ee-r-EH-g-ee-s-oo-r). The Kiregisur is always female, and always a Chron. Many young Chrons train long, hoping to one day become the next Kiregisur. The current Kiregisur watches the young trainees from time to time, and eventually chooses her successor. A period of four years then passes while Kiregisur trains her apprentice, concluding with a celebration known as Kiregsiug (k-ee-r-EH-g-s-EE-oo-m), a day of festivities to welcome the new Kiregisur as the old retires. The Kiregisur spends most of her time in meditation, often slowing her relative time to maximize efficiency. She pauses at intervals, wherein people may come to her with issues for her to rule on. If the Kiregisur dies without an heir, the teachers and trainers choose a Chron trainee to take on the rule. The power of the Kiregisur is aboslute, and it is trusted that she rules the people with wisdom.
