Astle

Astle was formed thousands of years ago when the Basuri asked humanity to build their navy. A small camp was built atop the Durin Cliffs. The Durin Cliffs are Northwest of the Felwyn capitol Gaern. In ancient times, a pulley system brought workers, and materials to and fro. It was thought that the cliffs were too high and steep to build an active port city.   When the humans withdrew from the war, rather than move their families, they decided to settle the area, despite the elves’ wishes. The war raged for another 100 years, and within this time Astle became a bustling settlement, fit with high walls and artillery, as well as a devastating navy. Astle swiftly became the biggest trade port on the coast, more lucrative than even the Basuri’s merchant fleet.   The city perches on the very edge of a cliff face that meets an equally massive sandy beach at the bottom. The topmost district, known as Rorant, is blanketed with a thick fog during the early morning, late afternoon, and evening. The fog only disappears under the harsh noon sun, and only remains gone for a few hours.   Huge platforms dot the side of the Durin cliff. Each platform juts out of the cliff face as a semi-circles and marks another district in the city of Astle. There are 3 platforms, not including the settlements at the top and bottom. Each stone platform has a large gem in the very center that glows a bluish-green. Magical tendrils seem to coalesce from these gems. The magic tethers are all connected to a huge gemstone at the top of the cliff, that glows with blueish green divine energy. The light pulsates sending the magic rippling through the tethers, an ever present shimmering light in the fog.   The Artioch is a Gift, a gemstone pulsing with the divine Essence of the Maker herself. It is said she gifted the town this gemstone, thus allowing them to easily build a large settlement, where none could before. The magic tethers attached to each crystal allow the platforms to defy gravity, as well as provide magic energy to operate the lifts, and various other magics.   The lifts have a daily schedule, and everyone who lives in Astle must abide by these schedules, or they will be left behind. Ancient stone staircases are carved into the side of the Durin Cliffside, the only way humans of lore could decend to the beach below. These stairways are considered defunct and unusable, having fallen and crumbled away due to time.

Government

Astle is part of the Felwyr Nation, a collection of mostly humans, some dwarves and even fewer elves. The Felwyr Nation is controlled by the Council of Lords. The Council consists of the various rulers of the largest cities and settlements within the Felwyr Nation. Astle is one of the Felwyr’s most important cities other than their capitol, Gaern. As their only port city, Astle gives the Felwyr Nation access to various ore, spices, and materials they do not have access to. It also allows them to secure alliances across the ocean with the various countries in the continent.

Defences

The city's 15 feet stone walls are capped with metal barricades and sentries all all hours. The City Guard are refered to as the CliffKeepers, or just Cliff, or just Keepers.

Infrastructure

Astle's roads are made of sturdy cobblestone and are lit with street lights everglowing with the magic of the Artioch. The buildings are made with a mixture of metal and wood, each structure sound and safe, and able to withstand the mists that always hangs about their city.   Astle is a city of wealth and prosperity. Lovely parks and courtyards are scattered throughout it's districts, especially Rorant and Jeerah.
