Rorè, The lion's pride

Rorè is one of the twin jewels of the Empire of Exileon, along with the city of Tesia, this sprawling megapolis is the capital of the empire. Its reach stretches across the lowlands of Sausans between the mouths of the rivers Tass and Lamur, built atop hundreds of small islands the city is separated by a large number of canals the longest of which all lead to the great citadel, Lionscrown, from which the city is centered.   As you enter Rorè, you are greeted by towering gates adorned with glistening gemstones and intricate carvings depicting mythical creatures and celestial beings. The streets are paved with shimmering cobblestones that seem to emit a soft, ethereal glow, guiding you through a labyrinthine network of enchanting alleys and boulevards.   Rorè is a true embodiment of intricate design and decadence, where imagination knows no bounds and opulence reigns supreme. Every street, every building, and every corner of this city is a testament to the creative genius and grandeur of its inhabitants. No expense is spared in rich materials for prominent buildings, and architects do not shy away from color. Blue, gold, and white are distinct colors for nobility, White marble with gold detail is a signature style for interiors. The impression is the biggest goal; it does not matter if a building is weak as long as it does not look so, Even the smallest objects are built with flair. Aesthetics trump practicality every time, a style adopted around the nation. But do not be fooled by the thrills of the inner city for it was built on the bones and sorrows of the less fortunate.   Expensive renovations to keep up with trends occur as ages pass, but under it all is the same rotting wood. The further away from the heart of the rich you go, the less extravagant things get, and the more flaws become visible.

Demographics

Rorè is a city dominated by humans, like most other cities of the empire, who show disdain for most other races seeing them as lesser beings or in the case of Beastmen, mere animals. Surprisingly the second most populous race among the Rorèen is the Half-elves who share relatively more privileges than the humans themselves. This is because of the influence of centuries of elven rulership in the region many humans had intermingled with their elven rulers and having elven ancestry has become a symbol of prestige.   Other half-humans make up the bulk of the remaining population, however, Beastmen like their forebears are treated as nothing more than livestock by the humans of the city and are shunned, thrown to the ghettos of Rorè's outskirts forced to eke out a living in the unforgiving slums of Ol town.   Dwarves are to be seen with either a certain degree of Ire or respect depending on the person, those who come to acknowledge the Dwarves for their part in the War In Heaven are few and far between those who seek to cling to the ideals of their elven ancestors and spite them for their ancient rivalry with the elves. Elves themselves are revered amongst most in Rorè and it is not an understatement to say that just being an elf can see you soar high in the affairs of the city.

Government

Being home to the Griffon's Council the city of Rorè is not ruled by the Emperor alone but along with advisors from the council who manage the city's day-to-day affairs. In Rorè taxation and law making is under the will of the Emperor. As the Heart of the empire and seat of the Council Rorè experiences the brunt of new policies and acts as a conduit of change from which these policies are expressed to the rest of the nation.   The Griffon's Council has existed since the founding of the Twin Kingdom of Rorè and Tesia acting as the sole polity since before the Empire's founding, led by the House of the Lion, Rorè, and the House of the Eagle, Tesia these two houses would form the two political parties of the Council from which countless laws have passed, debates held and wars waged. With the Ascension of House Exileon, the Council's voice was hushed, and their political power diminished where once they managed the empire in its entirety they have been reduced to advisors in the advent of war and custodians to the petty squabbles of the nobility.   However, a spark of hope has Arisen for them in recent years, with the disappearance of Emperor Sanbre after his daughter Princess Rochelle was taken hostage by the Drakonis during the War known as the Dragons Tread. Having lost her husband and daughter, their only heir, Empress Kiera would take on the mantle of ruler in his stead, although her rule is said to rival that of even the empire's founders there are many who wish to undermine her because she is not of the imperial bloodline. One such person is Duke Aeriet a descendant of House Tesia with stronger claims to the throne and a patron to the Council.   Hoping to dismantle the House of Exileon and restore their glory under the Twin Kingdoms, many Councilors fervently flock to support his cause, but those who know the Empress' true self know to choose their allegiance carefully lest they become quarry to the Menagerie.

Districts

Mother's Rest

Named after one of the Aronel Goddesses, Mother's Rest is a grand cathedral that sits upon an Island of its own. Being home to Serene mother, the High Pontiff of the Aronel faith, the cathedral is seen as the most sacred site in the empire and the heart of the church.   From its halls, the Song of Purity can be heard echoing throughout the many boroughs of Rorè.

Ol' Town

Nestled on the outskirts of bustling Rorè, there exists a hidden secret, shrouded in neglect and forgotten dreams. In stark contrast to the gleaming skyscrapers and polished facades of the city, lies a dilapidated slum, a haunting reminder of urban decay and social inequality.   Life in this slum, while marred by poverty and hardship, is a testament to resilience. Residents gather in communal spaces, scraps of makeshift shelters erected amidst the decay. Makeshift market stalls offer meager provisions, their wares a stark contrast to the abundance of the city. Laundry lines hang haphazardly, swaying gently in the wind as if holding onto the last vestiges of dignity.   Yet, amidst the desolation, flickers of hope and unity emerge. Community murals, painted with vibrant colors and powerful imagery, adorn some walls, offering a visual respite from the surrounding decay. Beneath the surface, you can sense the strength and solidarity of a people who have learned to survive against all odds.

Griffon's Roost

Headquarters of the Griffon Knights of Exileon, The roost is set upon a massive rock formation standing around 720m tall. The rock as it is called is littered with expansive tunnels whose galleries are heavily fortified with embrasures, mantlets, and artillery.   At its peak lies The Aerie where the famed Griffon knights of Exileon are trained and their mounts raised until they one day answer a call to take the field.

Royeaux District

At the heart of the Royeaux district sits the Ark of Arteas a large floating island on which the home of the Feathered throne seat of the Emperor sits, the Lionscrown. The Ark itself sits directly above the rest of the city only accessible by Weygate - portals managed by the Aronel priests or their mages.   The rest of the district is where the city's aristocracy resides, the focal point of Exileonese high society the Royeaux is besmirched with ridiculously elaborate chateaus for every noble seeks to one-up his peers by drowning their household in the latest fashion. The buildings rise high into the sky, boasting ornate facades adorned with delicate filigree, vibrant mosaics, and colorful stained glass windows that create a kaleidoscope of light within. Statues of legendary heroes, majestic beasts, and celestial beings are scattered throughout the city, bringing tales of myth and legend to life. Here the unique garb of Exileon arose elaborate costumes and intricate masks.   The Royeaux district's main attraction is the Grand Plaza, a vast expanse of beauty and extravagance. The plaza is lined with opulent palaces, resplendent with gold leaf and shimmering crystals that catch the sunlight and cast a dazzling display of colors. Fountains, crafted in the likeness of mythical creatures, spew sparkling water into the air, creating a melodious symphony as it cascades down into pools filled with floating petals of exotic flowers.   The Conquerers Gate proves an impressive wonder for any passerby with its towering statues of steel in their golden-covered facade. Its walls are lined with the Mural of the Prophet, a masterpiece foretelling the story of the great prophet Arteas.

The Black Palace

Once home to the royal family of Rorè, the palace is now claimed by House Kasmir a branch family who serve as guardians and bearers to Martulsax, The Black Beast one of Exileon's three Eidols.   The Palaces imposing obsidian spires are a conflicting feature compared to the pearlescent white marble and golden crests of the rest of the city. A warning to those who pass that unlike the rest of the city, here beasts tread in plain sight.

Cremon District

The Cremon District never sleeps. As the sun sets, the streets come alive with vibrant energy. Magnificent theaters host spellbinding performances, showcasing the talents of gifted actors, musicians, and acrobats. Taverns and cafes spill over with laughter and merriment, their walls adorned with murals depicting epic tales and heroes of old. The night sky above Rorè is a dazzling spectacle, filled with floating lanterns, glowing orbs, and vibrant fireworks that paint the heavens with mesmerizing colors. The city's markets are a sensory delight, brimming with treasures from all corners of the realm. Stalls are laden with silks in every shade imaginable, rare spices that perfume the air, and exquisite jewelry adorned with precious gemstones that sparkle like captured stars. The aroma of decadent delicacies wafts through the streets, enticing you with the promise of extraordinary flavors and culinary delights.

Port of Sausans

The great port of Sausans is a bustling hub of maritime activity, teeming with life and brimming with enchantment. Situated at the edge of the city, it serves as a gateway to distant lands and a vital lifeline for trade, exploration, and cultural exchange. As you approach the port, you are greeted by a magnificent sight that captivates both the eye and the imagination.   At its heart lies a wide harbor, sheltered by towering cliffs on one side and a protective seawall on the other. The seawall, adorned with intricate carvings and magical sigils, acts as a barrier against turbulent waves and safeguards the vessels docked within. A grand lighthouse stands tall at the entrance, guiding ships safely into the harbor with its radiant beacon of light.   A maze of docks and piers extends into the crystal-clear waters, accommodating ships of all sizes, from humble fishing boats to majestic galleons and colossal trading vessels. The wooden planks of the docks creak under the weight of cargo, as merchants and sailors scurry about, their voices intermingling with the sounds of seagulls and lapping waves.

History

Rorè, a city-state in western Nikanoa, had a deep historical connection with the ancient Ardinian Empire. Once a prosperous province within the empire, Rorè thrived as a center of culture, trade, and governance. However, as the Ardinian Empire declined, Rorè gained independence and emerged as a sovereign city-state. Drawing upon the remnants of the Ardinian legacy, Rorè aspired for greatness and eventually rose to become a kingdom in its own right. Under visionary leadership, it experienced a golden age of progress and expansion. Later, Rorè merged with the Kingdom of Tesia, creating the powerful Exileon Empire. The merger brought together their strengths, cultures, and territories. Challenges arose, but Rorè persevered, leaving a lasting mark on the world's history.
