Reaver Princes

The Reaver Princes are one of very few pirate bands that remain on modern Vesarca, and by far the most infamous. Founded and led by the feared Reaver King, the disgraced knight Evander Ramgett, the Reaver Princes raid and pillage across the waters of Vesarca.   Although most of their peers have been hunted to extinction by the Royal Legionary Navy, the Reaver Princes have eluded such a fate for decades. They strike without warning and melt away before any response can be mustered, losing their pursuers in the vastness of Vesarca's oceans, which they know better than any other. Their ships - heavily-modified vessels captured from the navy and merchants - are exceptionally swift for their size and armament, and can outrun all but the fastest cutters of the royal fleet... ships ill-equipped to fight them even when they can catch them. Aiding in their elusiveness is their submarine capability; every ship in a Reaver Prince fleet can descend beneath the waves, emerging in great plumes of salt spray when it is time for battle.   In addition to their deadly ships, the Reaver Princes are also known to operate a wide arsenal of military-grade technology, including Full Plate suits. Most famous of these is the fearsome Smilin' Maks, the personal suit of the Reaver King himself.   Much of the Reaver Princes' inner workings are shrouded in mystery. It is believed that they operate semi-democratically, despite their royal pretensions, and that the word of the Reaver King - and even his title - carries so much weight purely out of respect for his abilities and experience. Beyond that, little is understood.   Strangest of all are their motivations. Besides the typical plundering, the Reaver Princes have been known on occasion to kidnap Listeners, with no demands, simply spiriting them away never to be seen again. They have occupied holy sites, descending into shrines for unclear reasons, and disappearing when their unknown aims had been met. Most brazen of all, a lone Reaver gunship once fired a long-range missile from the Sea of Fomalhaut aimed directly at the Menhir of Fomalhaut, only for the missile to blink out of existence in flight and the ship to spontaneously crack in half and explode shortly after. The Reaver Princes have never spoken of the incident, and the objective of this obvious folly remains a mystery.
