Children of Evil

Overview

Born every thousand years or so, a Child of Evil is a being whose existence threatens the balance of the world. Their red eyes grant them unnatural powers, and they possess an innate desire for destruction. According to the Blood Moon Prophecy, it is said that a Child of Evil will bring ruin to the world if left unchecked. It is for this reason that they must be expunged. Nearly all of them have died at a young age, way before their powers could mature. The only exception was Azarus.

Azarus, also known as the Dark God, the Root of Evil, and the Higher Dark, would grow up to wage an apocalyptic war against humanity and the Gods. This event would be known as the Elysian War. During this period, a blood moon hovered above the sky — an indicative sign that his powers had peaked and could even rival the Gods.

The exact origins of the Children of Evil are unknown. However, it is a widely accepted idea that they manifest into existence by feeding off of humanity’s sins. Such is why moral purity is deeply ingrained into Rylan culture, often to the point of fanaticism. Mass hysteria in present-day Rylah is prevalent. Those accused to be witches, apostates, and heretics in league with the Higher Dark are bound to face persecution. Presumed to be cursed, some albinos also face intense discrimination because of their pinkish eyes. There is a purification process to their condition, but it unfortunately involves gouging their eyes out.

I've got it, as I skulk around the world I cast a minor cantrip causing random people's eyes to flash red, and duck when the excitrlement starts. Very nice article, enjoyed reading it.
