Val

Vals are very similar to Wulvechs however instead of being wolf-like, Vals have a more vulpine (fox-like) appearance. They have short orange fur on most of their body with white fur on their chest and under their chin and black fur on their hands, feet and ears. Their ears are pointy and slightly larger than Wulvech ears. Both men and women are about average height and show sexual dimorphism, with men generally being hairier than women.
Vals trace their ancestry to Ulque through his second son Valis. The story goes that after Ulque’s death his eldest son Uwolan became the chief of his people. Uwolan was domineering and aggressive so Valis refused to obey him. The two brothers fought and Valis used his cunning to escape. This tale is occasionally used to justify the mistrust between Wulvechs and Vals throughout history. Just like foxes Vals are seen as cunning, witty and at times mischievous. They are experts at navigating the frozen seas of the north and their traders even sail as far as the Rhessian Empire. Being a republic and being tied to the vastness of the ocean, Vals have a more independent spirit than other races. Their isolation has also affected the way they practice Nasceism. It isn’t uncommon to see peasants perform pagan rituals in honour of the Nascea, however as Valisiya becomes more connected through trade, more orthodox practices are slowly taking over the cities.
