Feast of Races

This spring festival lasts a week (7 days) and celebrates unity around Alyeria. From famous breweries to the smallest roadside inn, establishments offer up a special holiday menu that explores the daily and exotic dishes of the many races. Initially it was just about the food and allowed cooks to expand their culinary skills. Over time it has developed into a a broader culutral celebration including music, competitions, art and performances that explore historical or cultural events.   In some areas of the Middle Kingdoms various festival specific traditions are honored like "Pass one down" a dwarven tradition of passing a free plate to race unfamiliar with their cuisine.   A highlight for the area is the Pageant of Races hosted by the Coucil of Bravidia. This event showcases the clothing, heraldry, music and heroes of the cultures across the world. The event runs for half the day and traverses the many wards of the city. Merchants offer samples and discounts all along the parade route.   Acts of kindness, charitable giving and even the end of political or trade disputes have been seen on this holiday.   The festival is not just about food and culture, conversation and debat are encouraged as long as it is keep civil. Powerful merchant and political alliances have been forged during the Feast of Races as well.   Contests of cleverness and wit are hosted in some taverns.   The Feast of Races is preceded in a few areas by the Grand Gathering.  A communal hunt, foraging and preparation event to collect materials for the feast.  Ranger and druid guilds collaborate and set offerings throughout the gathering zones to thank the world for its sacrifice and contribution towards harmory among the races of Alyeria.
