Stafford scribbled something down. He passed it on to his secretary who went out into the other room.
"I am as you see me. The Head of Customs and Investigations House, Minuba Branch. If you have complaints, concerns, or questions I am at your disposal."
You consider the stacks of papers around the room. Then you remember how long it was to get a number. And then to just access his front desk.
Stafford straightened his spectacles. "Of course," he said. "If you have grievances with the Imperial Vennacti, you would have to take it up with their lot. I can recommend you to their HQ in the city. You'll find them... babysitting or some other nonsense."
He sniffed. There was disdain in the crinkle of his nose. It would seem there is no love lost between the Customs and Investigations House and the Imperial Vennacti.

Stafford Polk, Head of the Minuba Branch of the House of Customs and Investigations, is the ideal of Darcassian efficiency. A workaholic, Stafford always had his eye set on efficiency. This background made him the perfect choice to head the posting in the colonial possessions in Minuba on the Empire's behalf. There he reviews paperwork, stamps orders, investigates exports and imports, and complains about the plodding laziness of the local Vennacti.
That last part has not endeared him to his counterpart Lauren Prudence.
Stafford is a committed Roboticist, believing firmly in the power, efficiency, and broad application of machinery. Though not dismissive of Geneticists like Lauren, Stafford believes that investment in improving the flesh a waste of time and resources.

"The mortal body is faulty and prone to malfunction. My contemporaries claim the same for the machine. I would politely object. You need only see my department and know that there is not a single thing out of place. Everything committed to its purpose. Maximum efficiency for maximum profit. Profit is power."
