Runegold

Though it was sometimes marketed or sold as a rare alloy, runegold was simply normal gold enhanced with magical runes. Those not versed in the arcane arts were ignorant of Tor's Nine Uses of Gold, which taught the various ways gold could be affected by magic. Reinforced thus, runegold items could magnify a spellcaster's abilities.

Whenever one commissioned runegold equipment, they had to familiarise themselves with the runes used in its creation. Overeager mages could be tricked into a cheap knock-off and end up wounded or eaten by monsters.
