Winter Limb

Winter Limb is a disease formed through an attempt to create an Ice Armor spell sometime in the distant past. The severity of the disease differ depending on the race of the infected individual, Tieflings often won't survive it, while Goliats are virtually immune to it.

Transmission & Vectors

The disease transfer through touching the affected area with bare skin, thus it's easy to contain if you know about it.

Causes

Many decades ago an arrogant wizard tried to create a spell to shield his body in magically reinforced ice, though through a huge error in the creation prosses the spell covered the skin in ice though did nothing to protect the caster from the magical ice's cold. If they attempted to shatter the ice it would just regenerate just as the spell had intended, though through yet another oversight the spell was impossible to cancel since it didn't draw it's energy from a mage's magical reserves but through a creatures magical life-force.

Symptoms

The most common symptom is ice covering a part of the body, most often a limb.

Treatment

The most surefire way to treat it is though a Dispel magic spell cast at a 5th level or higher, though other than that lighting a fire under the effected area is known to dampen the effects, though the more the ice is damaged the more a patient suffers. So the most common treatment is amputation, or leaving it be hoping an error within the spell cancels itself.

Prognosis

Most who catch the disease realize that their limb must be given up to rid themselves of it, though wealthy people or semi-powerful casters can usually get by fine due to the access to Dispel magic.

Affected Groups

The race who fear the disease the most are Tieflings since their latent affinity for fire goes in straight contrast with the winter limb spell, and the disease feed on their life-force much quicker than with other races so a Tiefling usually only has at max a week to live after catching the disease.

Prevention

Not under any circumstances touch someone with the disease.
