Upon the continent situated southwest of the war-torn land of Keldun and west of Sava-Ruel sits the Kingdom of Salaban, formed from migrants and refugees from Keldun and Sava-Ruel in times long past. The natives - primitive barbarian tribes and dangerous monsters - were hostile to the immigrants, and after a long and bloody war which nearly destroyed the land and decimated the populace, the natives were pacified and sent north, to a long expanse of mountains and forests known as the Wildlands. The Kingdom of Salaban was formed, the land was tamed, and civilization began to flourish. Due to the immense destruction that was caused by users of magic on both sides, the general practice of magic was made illegal to prevent such catastrophic destruction in the future. The war took a huge toll on the military forces of Salaban, and to this day, the kingdom often has trouble securing its most remote regions. Concerned for the safety of the majority of his subjects, the King keeps most of his military forces near the capital and most populated centers. For threats that linger in the hinterlands, and powerful remnants of the terrible wars, the King has formed an elite guild of mercenaries and adventurers known as the King's Hand.
