Jommund

The village of Jommund lies about three days south of the southern border of the Wildlands. As such, they are in the Hinterlands, the area of Salaban that goes unprotected by the military, and as such, is supposedly under the watchful eye of the King's Hand, an elite cabal of adventurers and mercenaries. The Hand chapterhouse in Jommund, an old feast-hall built just after the Great Taming, has fallen into disrepair; the King's Hand abandoned it years ago, seeing no need for their services, with how quiet Jommund tends to be.   The village elders, Ingvar and Halda, have seen the end of the Taming, and supposedly fought in the war, if their tall tales are to be believed. They serve as local leaders, though they are too aged to see to the daily needs of the town. For the most part, the people of Jommund govern themselves, living by a mutually understood silent social contract. There are things that are simply not done, and anyone who does these things is generally ostracized.   Things that are taboo in Jommund:
  • Fighting (no one in Jommund has a weapon more dangerous than an eating dagger or an old, rusty heirloom sword)
  • Theft (the only coin a Jommunder might see might come from passing merchants)
  • Being out of doors at night (though the Hare's Run is a popular place after dark)
The villagers barter amongst themselves and with the merchants that pass through from time to time. Other outsiders are usually directed to the Hare's Run and, while treated well, are generally encouraged to leave after a few days.
