Notable Clans

The clans of Falakia are unruly and warlike, with feuds and rivalries going back to the first settlers of the cold northern reaches. While there are many clans, a few stand out.

Clan Vitkulle

Clan Vitkulle is what most foreigners imagine Falakians to be like - larger than life, imposing, fierce. They are most likely to travel outside of Falakia and, thus, are the clan most well-known to outsiders. They trace their lineage to a legendary hero, Skallagrim, said to have battled a demon named Hrafinn for dominion over the north, and so came to rule the icy domain he had won. They base their claim of primacy in Falakia on this ancient legend, feuding primarily with Reginleif, the only clan large enough to match them. Vitkulle is well-known for their warriors and weaponsmiths; it is said that a weapon from Vitkulle Hall is as good as one from Mithril Gate.

Clan Reginleif

Clan Reginleif are Vitkulle's principal rivals for dominance in Falakia. Where Vitkulle is known for their honorable and mighty warriors, Reginleif is known for cunning and subterfuge, giving them a sinister reputation in a land where honor is more important than life. Vitkulle claims that something dark and rotten lies at the heart of Reginleif, that Sven af Reginleif has summoned or cajoled some kind of evil to serve him, apparently proven by Reginleif's lack of an Ilma-speaker in the clan.

Clan Blackstone

A wild clan in the farthest reaches, known for their white-stag symbol and skilled hunters, Blackstone is far removed from the feuds common to the clans. They occupy the northernmost reaches of Falakia, close to the Maw of Ataramakaris. Their lands are wild, teeming with game and also with danger. The hunters of Blackstone have faced giants, manticores, and even a fearsome Thrasfyr, if the clan's tale-spinning, boastful leader Arne af Blackstone is to be believed. It is rumored that Clan Blackstone has beasts in their blood; their hunters perform bloody rituals after some of their hunts.
