Sapphire Lake

The Sapphire Lake is famous across Rhunec for being the deepest body of water known. The almost perfectly circular lake is burried deep under The Northern Mountains. The lake is fed by underwater springs. The only outlet is Glatten River that rushes to the northern stretch of the Fiamma Sea. The lake's brilliant blue color comes from the minerals in the water and the luminescent creatures that cling to the cavern ceiling and swim in the lake's depths.   The lake is a source of drinking water and food for the people of Uhtal. The smaller fish will swim up and eat the luminescent bugs that fall from the ceiling. The people of Uhtal catch the smaller fish using those same bugs. Every now and then, a green glow will begin to pool under the surface of the water. Fishers will pull up their lines as fast as possible. The larger creatures don't surface often, but no one wants to land a deepfish without the right preparations. Every year there is a festival called The Angeln where teams will try and land the biggest deepfish. It is a sport only for the strongest and fiercest fishermen and women.
