New Esland Revolution

New Esland was born from the revolution of The Board against the Astalet dynasty. The presence of the dragon ruler Kornarak fueled the revolution, as the people of Esland feared that the dragon would attack and the country would not be ready under the rule of the Astalet family.

The Conflict

Prelude

The revolution was quick to brew. The dragon increasingly pressured the borders, claiming land from Be-didrait without consequences. While the mountains prevented immediate threat from attack, it seemed to many just a matter of time before Kornarak come around the mountains for the land, anyways. Especially as the protectors of City of Thi, many Eslandians found the response of the Astalet dynasty, or rather lack of response unacceptable.   Similarly to the current structure of The Board, the revolution began with five commanders gathering support from the different regions of the country. The armies amassed quietly at first, secretly training peasants to fight. The full-blown revolution quickly became too loud, however, and the Astalet caught word. Large gatherings and weapons became illegal, however, outside of the capital of Thi, there were enough legal officials in on the revolution that the laws were not upheld, and the revolution continued to grow. Within the city it continued to grow, but much slower due to the higher degree of secrecy.

Deployment

The revolution is said to start in 1177, as this was the first bloodshed for the conflict. The fight began in the City of Thi as tension grew among factions. The five growing facets of the revolution converged on the city, garnering support as they moved. All told, it was a fairly short conflict; a lack of strong military was one of the main complaints against the Astalet rule. The military that did exist crumbled internally as many soldier turned against the dynasty in preference of the board's stronger military rule. The fight occurred, therefore, within the city, a heretic action in the eyes of many priests.   The revolution ended, officially, with the execution of the Astalet family upon reaching the [not-castle]. The conflict lasted much longer in reality, subduing loyalists to the family and ensuring that the board was accepted.

Aftermath

In the wake of the revolution, the country was renamed New Esland, and the Board established rule. With the continued presence of the dragon to the west, military strength has been the main focus of the new country. Each family is required to draft a child to the military, and in some cases, more may be requested. Some factions resent the new leadership for stealing their children and family, but most are still in support of the new government, fearing the dragon more than anything else.
