Catspeak
Catspeak is an ancient language that was used by Tabaxi and Leonin ancestors many years ago. Modern day no specific Tabaxi language exists that is spoken by all Tabaxi where's Leonin, the language does exist. Leonin evolved and came from Catspeak. It is unknown why only Leonin evolved from the language and not Tabaxi but the rumours are that the Tabaxi were a more explorer and adventurer race that split up into smaller communities meaning that each tribe had their own language and no single, large-scale tabaxi language existed that the entire race knew or used.
Origins
A long time ago no "Common" existed. There was no universal language that almost everyone would be able to speak and communicate in. Each kingdom and each tribe had their own language and the original Catfolk - Tabaxi and Leonin were no different. Since they lived together and it is actually thought that there was no separation back then between the two races and only with thousands of years of evolution and adaptions did the differences between the two races appear, it is thought that they also shared the same language - Catspeak. But it's also not believed that all of the clans and tribes shared the language. Supposedly many different clans and tribes that lived separate had their own languages that only came together once trade and travel became a larger part of these civilization's lives. With all of these separate tribes coming together and trading over time the languages blended together and Catspeak was finally created.Geographical Distribution
It is thought that Catspeak originated somewhere in the middle of the Elgidth continent, near the Tall Plains, but more to the West. This is also where the first Cat folk - both Tabaxi and Leonin were thought to have lived in large tribes.
