Cursed Peonies

Hundreds of flowers grow in a kingdom that has long been in ruin. Vines crawl over the crumbling walls of its once great castle, and all of its towns and villages are hidden under the endless wildflower meadows. The kingdom's name has been lost to time, buried with the rest of the kingdom under the flowers.
At the heart of the kingdom, in the only remaining tower of the crumbling castle, lies the unrotting corpse of its princess. Peonies grow and blossom from her body, and no other flower grows in that room.
How the kingdom came to ruin is a mystery, and so is the death of its princess. Many people believe that the key to this enigma lies in the peonies. It is believed that if one drank the nectar from its flowers, they would see the memories of the princess, specifically those around the time of her death. Very few people have ever attempted to taste its nectar, but those that have have experienced heartache, and eventually their hearts would have stopped beating.
Most people have died before being able to tell anyone of the memories they've seen, but one man was able to write a few of his visions before his death.

... I have tasted the nectar of these cursed peonies, and now I wallow in grief and shame. I do not know if this is what I feel for being foolish enough to drink the nectar or if these emotions are remnants of the princess's memories. The visions I have seen are fragmented and incomprehensible; The roots of a plant strangling a beating heart, flowers bursting from the heads of weeping women, a king kneeling before a feyrie begging for mercy, and I-

The peonies are pale in color, being a very light pink with the tips of petals being a deep shade of blood red. The nectar of these peonies is mildly sweet, but leaves a bitter and salty aftertaste.
