The Pale Mountains
The Pale Mountains are a massive, white granite range that spans hundreds of miles across the Hinterlands, tracing a diagonal line from the northeast to the southwest. Unmelting snows cap its many high peaks, and ancient lava tubes create tunnels and caverns deep into the mountains, concealing any number of forgotten secrets. This range holds many wonders, from The Great Spine that skirts its countless peaks, to Tine-Gal Mountain that lies near the heart of the Hinterlands.
The mountains act as a natural barrier, protecting much of the Hinterlands from the frigid weather that is much more common on the northwestern side of the range, where the heat and ash of Tine-Gal Mountain cannot reach.
Geography
The high mountain peaks of the Pale Mountains are rife with countless natural dangers, from the freezing temperatures and peaks prone to avalanches, to the hidden lava tubes and crevices that can spell doom for any climber not careful of their path.
Tourism
The main draw of the Pale Mountains is towards pilgrims hoping to walk the Great Spine's trail in search of enlightenment, but many others seek to cross the mountains in order to venture into the northwestern portion of the Hinterlands, on exploratory or archaeological expeditions.
