Land's End

The last true settlement that travelers will pass through before fully entering the Hinterlands. This grey stone walled village is home to all manner of drifters and those with a distaste for the larger cities within the territories of the Clansmoot. Traders from the various Hinterland tribes often make their way here seeking goods that they cannot otherwise make or get for themselves, making Land's End a surprisingly bustling trading post, given its location.

Demographics

All races and creeds can be found here. Drifters, merchants, craftsmen, bandits, and the occasional criminal all live together here, all looking to get away from more organized society.

Government

The town is governed by a small council and an alderman, who happens to be a former bandit captain. His men now serve as the guards, helping to keep the peace in this isolated border settlement.

Defences

  • A reinforced grey stone wall.
  • A stable of 8 warhorses.
  • A barracks of 30 well equipped guards
  • Wooden archer towers stationed at the eastern and western gates of the town.

Industry & Trade

The entire economy of the village is centered around the traveling merchant traders that come through town daily, both from the Hinterlands and from the rest of the continent.

Infrastructure

The village was built alongside a small river on its northern border, where they constructed two watermills. The few farming plots within the village walls produce various vegetables and herbs, namely wheat. The wheat is then taken to the watermills to be processed into wheat flour for bread.

Three stockmen that live in the village raise enough small livestock to keep the village well fed on meat and eggs.

Assets

As the West's foremost trading post, the village hosts shops and merchants of all kinds: a smithy, an herbalists, an infirmary, two watermills, and a large trade market.

As for valuables, the village boasts many a rare and exotic wonder, brought in by traders from the Hinterlands. Kane Brautigan, the alderman, also seems to be exceptionally wealthy when compared to the average wealth of villages this size.

Guilds and Factions

  • Kane Brautigan, the Alderman, and his guards.
  • The Merchant's Guild

History

Land's End has existed on the edge of the Hinterlands as a trade hub for only the last 30 years. Before Kane Brautigan and his bandit clan arrived, it was nothing more than a dusty border camp of tents and a single, small log cabin. Over the years, Kane and his men worked hard to build Land's End into the safe harbor and lucrative trade post that it is today, drawing settlers of all kinds to the village. Every villager may have their own unique story, but they all share a common reason for living there, to escape.

Architecture

All of the buildings in the village are constructed of pine wood, with pitched roofs covered in thick layers of grass. Most of the smaller buildings have dirt floors, but some of the larger ones use cobblestones.

Geography

Land's End is situated along the Grey River, a small river that flows from deep in the Hinterlands to the northwest. The terrain here is composed of rolling hills and shallow dales, before the land flattens out to the northwest, past the borders of the Hinterlands. Small copses of pine and oak trees dot the landscape at its lower points, and the Grey River lazily winds its way between the hills, as it makes its way southeast.

Natural Resources

The people of Land's End have an abundant source of wood from the countless copses of trees in the area, while the Grey River provides clean, fresh water and fish. The mineral rich soil provides excellent farmland, and the hills provide access to stone and metals for crafting and construction.
