Personal history

Jadna's mother, Abil Sani, was happily married for many years until she and her husband tried to raise a family and Abil's first three children died before childbirth. She was distraught, and her husband suspected her of being touched by Emamam or otherwise cursed and left her. After years of solitude and heartache, however, she met a stranger playing chess at a bar and slowly fell in love again. The stranger never told Abil his true name, but the night he left, he told Abil that if she was ever cursed, then the curse had come undone; and sure enough, their child, Jadna, survived.   She was born during Abil's voyage to a farther north area of the eastern Halad. In spite of the difficult circumstances and premature birth, she was a very healthy and curious child. She was raised as a devout Ardivid and avid scholar. As a girl, she was often argumentative, cheeky, rebellious, and remarkably intelligent. Adults either praised her appetite for knowledge or annoyed by her impudence. Her peers admired and feared her for her boldness and for the rumors of her divine birth. Many things, however, she kept secret from all, including her talent for alchemy.   When the Deepening came, however, her comfortable life was shattered. All of her friends and family were lost. She managed to hold on as the waves grew ever higher and the ground shook and the storms raged. Even when things seemed to be settling down, she stayed hidden, deeply hateful and mistrustful of the world in general. When she heard of a group of refugees venturing further south in the hopes of high ground, she fled the remains of her country and never looked back.   By then, scattered communities were forming in the Southern Floodlands. Jadna wandered between them for many years, scavenging or doing odd jobs until finally settling in Godll Hao Heavenward, a town on the northern edge of the Jubarian mainland. There, she has long lived her days quietly making candles and clothing, doing small trades in the market to survive.   She's also a vigilante on the side.
