Huán Wěi Rén
Ring Tailed Warlords
Often simply called the Huán Rén, these people make up the populous of the largest of all the eastern nations. Often allied with the Janaga, they have conquered thousands of miles of land and their borders stretch across the entire east. Huán Rén are often great thinkers but also are quite talented climbers.

Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Personal names in Huán Yǔ present the family or clan name first. So a Huán Rén named Zhang Yong from the clan Chen would be called Chen Zhang Yong.
Beauty Ideals
While it is difficult for those outside the race to perceive, beauty is defined by the Huán Wěi Rén in a measure of how honorable one is. Honor is defined in different ways for the males and females. Good etiquette, military victories, a strong bloodline, and wealth are all small details that are all considered when taking a Huán Rén's honor into account. For females specifically, it is also common to have trained in some form of instrument or painting to make her more desirable to more cultured clans.
Gender Ideals
Among Huán Wěi Rén, females are barred from serving in the military and holding most political offices. Men are allowed to take most lines of work but the first born son of every home is required to serve in the military. Exceptional performance in the military is rewarded handsomely so it is common for families to encourage many of their sons to join especially in particularly large families.
Courtship Ideals
Huán Wěi Rén practice arranged marriages exclusively with few exceptions. It is a tradition for both males and females to go and see a matchmaker, often a female, who evaluates them. Based on the evaluation and their bloodline the matchmaker will suggest potential matches to the clan leaders who will often debate among themselves for anywhere from an evening to a month on every detail. Once a marriage is finalized, the betrothed are not to see one another until the ceremony begins, often at sunset.
Relationship Ideals
After marriage, the male is expected to provide for his wife and protect her and in return, she is expected to bear as many children for him as she can. While this is a simple exchange, the fertility of a female is of great importance to clans due to it being the root goal of marrying them into the clan in the first place. Once a woman is past her prime and no longer fertile and her children have grown, she often takes up some kind of work to help support the next generation of the clan.
Common Etiquette Rules
In Huán Rén culture, it is necessary to bow to your elders, your superiors, and political officials to show respect. If your superior bows in return you must bow lower.
Common Dress Code
Huán Rén wear flowing clothing that allows for full range of movement at all times. The aristocracy wears more layers and the clothing is also made of more ornate materials with stunning patterns. Bright red is a color commonly worn alongside gold and most jewelry is made of semi-precious gemstones such as jade.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
The Huán Rén believe in astrology and that one's natures are predetermined by the conditions of their birth. Each lunar year in a 13-year cycle is characterized by one of 13 animals. These animals in order are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, and Tortoise. It is believed that the personality of a person is partly determined by what year it is and the astral signs of a person are even taken into consideration when matchmaking.
Common Taboos
Clan honor is of great importance, therefore the worst thing a Huán Rén can do is bring shame to his clan by not properly upholding Huán Rén tradition.

Author's Notes
While making the Janaga I had realized I had a slice of Japan and of India in my world but China was left out. I also was wanting for an explicitly militant race. So imagine my glee when looking through old images in a folder I keep on my pc when I see an armored red panda. Long story short, I laughed off the idea for a while before I decided that I would at least try to write the race out to kind feel it out, besides, it's world ember and I need my word count. About halfway through I fell in love with the idea that a cute little creature could be so deadly and so aggressive culturally. I am happy to have them as part of my world.
