Valrus Strummington

Tiefling Bard

Physical Description

Apparel & Accessories

Valrus wears a long and colourful coat with patches of every colour of the rainbow. The coat was originally an old, worn jacket he found abandoned in the street as it was full of holes. He patched these damages with tatters and scraps from his old colourful circus attire creating his patchwork coat. He also wears a large feathered hat and keeps a guilded cutlass on his hip at all times.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Valrus was born to an elven  couple in Stormveil, a well - respected and high born father, and a lesser but beautiful none the less mother. Unknown to them however, was that having come from a lower class family, Valrus' mother carried a demonic gene in her bloodline, one that could rear it's head at any generation. When the baby was born with red skin and glowing yellow eyes the father was disgusted. He cast the baby out of his house along with his wife believing her to be impure and the devil's thrall. And so Valrus was sent to an orphanage, abandoned by both his parents.   He spent most of his childhood on the street, running away from every orphanage that tried to take him because he never truly felt like he fit in, being the only tiefling in a mostly elven city. At the age of 12, Valrus found a beat up guitar abandoned in an alleyway and began busking alongside picking pockets in order to get by alone.   One day Vollo's Magnificent Travelling Circus came to town and for the first time in his life, Valrus saw other Tieflings among the circus' diverse performers. Seeing his kind, all smiling and happy, he sneaked his way into their tent and began playing his guitar for all who would hear. Charles Vollo was impressed by this, and so offered Valrus a position in their company along with clothes, food and a new guitar.   During his time with the circus, Valrus befriended a fellow tiefling, a girl of similar age called Riza Carbunkle. They were inseparable, she taught him to read, he taught her to pick pockets, and they used to sit and talk about running away together as soon as they could afford to. But this was not to be. One day while he was sat tuning his guitar, Valrus over heard Riza speaking with Vollo. This conversation quickly became violent when Vollo attacked Riza for asking for higher pay. Hearing this, Valrus burst into the room and attacked Vollo scratching at his face as he yelled out. needless to say this lead to him being thrown out of the circus with nothing but the clothes on his back and his guitar. Riza's fate was no better, she was owned by the circus and couldn’t just leave with Valrus. Due to his attack, life became very hard for Riza once he'd left, and she sadly died soon after. Be it starvation, suicide or foul play is still unknown.   Alone again, Valrus began to wander from town to town as a drifting bard, occasionally he'd stop to sing a song to an adoring drunk crowd in a local tavern. One night as he was walking the roads between towns he found himself walking across a smouldering battlefield, as the scavenger birds picked at corpses and took all that shimmered from the ground. As he walked he heard the crying of a scared little girl. following it he found a small elven child wrapped in a dead soldier's coat for warmth, it was riddled with holes and scratches torn by swords, arrows and scavenging beasts. As the wolves and thieving beasts began to circle this easy prey, Valrus stood over her and drew his sword yelling at them to get back. The small elf clung to his leg as he fought the oncoming horde off with the grace of an acrobat, finally they retreated and he was left alone with her.   She was tired and afraid, and so valrus scooped her up in his arms and turned round, heading back to the nearest city in order to find her shelter. He left her at an orphanage, along with all the money he had on him so she could afford some new clothes and food to eat. Valrus was ready to continue his journey when the girl suddenly grabbed his tail as he turned to go. She was holding the old coat she'd worn on that battlefield. With a warm smile, valrus took the coat and thanked her, sewing the damaged areas back together with scraps of his old circus costumes until finally he had a long coat of many coloured patches decorating it at random intervals, and a new found purpose, to help the scared and the suffering along his journey.
