Great Refuge of Denevor
Great Refuge of Denevor is the last station for people who's been afflicted with the Crystallization. At least for those who's still sane. -Sarberos von Keizlor, in Aethra After Crystallization, pg. 181Great Refuge of Denevor is the biggest hospital in Aethra, built by Alminster Denevor to help victims of Crystallization.
Purpose / Function
Funded by another victim of Crystallization, Alminster Denevor from House of Denevor of Ventios, Great Refuge aims to both provide a nice remaining life for the infected, and an independent research environment for scientist and mages working on a treatment or cure.
Infected people are brought to Great Refuge regardless of their nationality, race, or gender, and given their own hospital rooms, where they spend most of their remaining life in peace. They also provide people their favorite food, a good variety of fun activities (board games, sports and meetings with other victims) once a week, if they're willing to volunteer for the ongoing researches about the disease.
It is said that the services in the Great Refuge is so great that poor people from border cities that lost their hope in life would often try to get crystallized only to live a good few months in their life.
Architecture
The architecture of Great Refuge is highly inspired by the old Light Elven architecture: only difference being that the main material of the building is stone, and not marble as Light Elves tend to do. It's built on a mountain foot, and a lot of facilities of the hospital is carved inside the mountain.
History
After Alminster Denevor got afflicted by Crystallization after a skirmish in the frontlines, he used all of his fortune to build a hospital for people like himself. He was the only child of his house, and after his father's demise a few years ago, he became the only member of House Denevor. There was nobody who could object him, so he used all the wealth of his house for the construction of this facility, even selling his family mansion.
He, however, never lived to see the finished structure, as he took his own life when he realized he was on the verge of losing his sanity after fighting the disease for a whole 8 months.
