The Archipelago
The Archipelago is a large collection of islands united by the Serpentine Road
Geography
There are two main regions: inner ring outer ring. The inner ring is defined as all locations of all nations that are near or within the Serpentine Ring. These regions, in general, tend to be wealthier and have a more assimilated culture due to increased access to trade across the Serpentine Sea (see Language also). The parts of all nations that fall further outside the ring tend to be on a less wealthy scale, and tend to have a better maintenance of historical culture and traditions. It would not be strange for someone from the outside reaches of a nation to feel more kinship with the outer reaches of another nation than with someone from the inner ring of their own nation.
The Serpentine Road is a key landmark of the Archipelago. Legends state that the road was built long before anyone can remember, and in fact, the road was excavated between 800-300 years before present from beneath several feet of dirt and rock. It was quickly discovered that the faintly glowing pale green stone grants those who move along it superhuman speed. Pieces of the road were discovered on all islands of the archipelago, connecting the major cities of some ancient civilisation. There were even ancient bridges connecting the islands, one of which was intact (between Teroz and Corrim the remaining bridges were raised and repaired. The Serpentine Accord was first signed as a treaty 500 years ago dictating the terms of excavation of the road, which was a major international collaborative project. It had the side effect of generating a lasting peace between all nations of the Archipelago.
Pieces of the Serpentine stone have never been found except as a part of the Serpentine Road, and are, as such, there is a legal and moral taboo on moving, damaging, selling them, etc. Even scientific researchers are forbidden from any experiments that could tamper with or damage the stone, and so research into the stone’s properties has been severely limited.
The Serpentine Sea is a very mild sea, with warm waters and gentle currents, making it ideal for both leisure and business. Occasionally, the center of the sea experiences a once-in-a-century typhoon and waterspouts shoot up, whirpools, and all manner of mystical things occur.
Ecosystem
The majority of the Archipelago is covered in lush jungle, with tropical weather, tall trees, and tons of gorgeous beaches and waterfalls.
