The Disappearance of the Old World

Before Ravnica, the Silver City and its surrounding territories were owned by Kingdoms in the west who had discovered the uninhabited continent. Many years were spent overseen by these old kingdoms, until ships stopped coming. They sent people to investigate and they never came back. Few brave souls have gone near the old world and returned, but those who have say the entire landmass is engulfed in a black mist and a stench of death.

Historical Basis

In the almost 700 years of Ravnica's existence not a single person has set foot on the old world and returned to tell the tale.

Variations & Mutation

There are many conspiracies about what truly happened to the old world, including that the old world simply no longer saw value in the new continent and abandoned it. Others say there were punished by the gods as a warning, while some say it could have been a rapture. There is no one version of the story a majority of people believe, its all guesswork.

Cultural Reception

Many blame magic for the disappearance of the old world, and this legend is the primary support for banning magic in Ravnica. The Raven Family have tried to spin the story as the gods saying they should move on with the old world of magic and advanced to the new era of technology.
