The First Clause
Tentative Negotiations
The last ashes of the Last Fire had gone cold. Orc, elf, and human alike had revealed their true colors at the celebration of Faiastol - the motivation to fight was nowhere to be found. Pretense was futile: everyone was ready to end the war. The orcs were subdued, the elves had retreated. And so the first correspondence between the surviving high elves and the victorious humans began. The first such letter, rather than from the elves, was actually from Kalasine Eitrid himself to Arcon, the leader of the high elves. This letter, now known as the First Clause, would eventually become the opening statement of the Ashen Accord.New Traditions
As a sign of good will, the Ashen Accord was written after the elven tradition of treaty-writing, where the opening sections of the treaty are composed of edited versions of the correspondence leading up to the signing of the treaty. In this tradition, the surrendering faction usually writes the first communication, making the Ashen Accord a fringe case in this manner. This caused the First Clause to become somewhat renowned at the time. After the burning of the Ashen Accord (which immortalized it the treaty under divine mandate), the original copy of the First Clause was not preserved. Many copies of the Clause have turned up claiming to be the original, and as such the exact wordings of the Clause are not entirely unknown. This mystery has sparked a niche interest in deciphering and finding the original copy, if it was not destroyed. In Valendost, the libary in Ebon Abbey houses the most verifiably valid version of the clause, which reads as follows. To the Sylphmaster, the honorable Arcon of the elven kin, greetings. I propose a peace between our peoples. The fires of war have raged for nigh on a decade. Far too long. What say you? Humbly yours, --General Kalasine Eitrid
True Fate
In reality, the First Clause has been destroyed. It was, in fact, burned as kindling by a High Elf before the Ashen Accord was even signed. Any who know this have long since passed away.
