Rainbow reef

This is one of the reefs where the shore-dwelling Sirens live. It is located on the southern part of @ocean. Because of it's favorable position to the sun life thrives in and around the reef with hundreds of different species existing next to each other. The Rainbow reef Sirens are the only intelligent species that lives in it.

Geographie

The coral reef surrounds a landmass that is home to various species birds, reptiles and mammals called @island. It sourrounds the island almost entirely, cutting the island of from the rest of the ocean. There are multiple small openings where the water is higher than the reef, two on the north side rather close to each other, one west and east each and three on the south. Though only one of those is still easy to go over, because the corals near the other two are closing it off by growing. The reef and island are located on the southern end of the ocean near @country. Other than the openings above the water there are also multiple cave-like openings under water, where the reef was partially destroyed by species, during fights between the females during mating season. This is used as living places by a large number of smaller fish species and the Sirens too. Because of it's open postioning in the ocean the view is incredibly beautiful during dawn and dusk but rather dull during the day, at least according to the Sirens who love to watch the sun and the ocean meet, creating a sort of evening ritual where they can see each other and exchange stories. This is necessary because the reef is rather large, it's diameter close to 2000 meters so that sirens living on the North side on the reef for example don't see sirens from the south side every day.

Fauna & Flora

The reef is a thriving ecosystem for hundreds of different species, including snails, fish, sharks, mammals and birds, that come from the island to hunt the fish there. The sirens make a point of being a natural part of this ecosystem, never taking more than they need and going outside the reef in search parties when they need larger quantities of a specific item. The plant life there is also large and, with entire "forests" of sea weed, where different species live and the actual forests near the island with trees that are resistent to the salt water and provide another living place with their large far-reaching roots. The rock formations on the bottom of the island and around small parts of the reef prove a dangerous part of the reef, filled with carnivorous fish that come out when someone passes by and suddenly attack. Therefore not much of the caves is known aside from the fact that they seem to reach farther down than anyone can imagine and who knows what else is down there, or so the older siren children tell the younger ones to scare them.

Natürliche Ressourcen

For the animals and plants the reef and island provide everything they need from minerals to food. The Sirens use the sea weed from the "forests" as package and wrapping material. They are also sometimes eaten though that depends very much on personal taste. Sometimes they use the roots of the trees from the island to build when they can't use the natural formations the reef offers. That however requires a lot of finesse and a fine hand so it is very hard to do. For jewelry and decorations they use a lot of pearls that the clams provide, the sirens on the western side, where most of the pearl-producing clams live, made the welding processing of them their trade. The south side has a larger amount of fish and spends a lot of time hunting for the other parts of the Barrier where they have to be careful with how much fish they take.
