Genetics and Reproduction
Half-Elves are a natural blending between an Elf and a Human. The resulting Half-Elf falls somewhere in the center of these two, taking on characteristics of each. Some Half-Elves will have longer or more pointed ears (although always shorter than an Elf), or may have shorter or more rounded ears like a Human (although never as short or round as a human). Half-Elves also generally take away the physical characteristics of their Elven counterpart, particularly in their lithe and lightweight bodies.

Half-Elves age similarly to that of humans, but live much longer than the average human, with an average around ~200 years.

Social Structure
Half-Elves do not have a formal social structure, as they are between two different races. They are instead beholden to the societal trappings of both of their parent races.
In human society, Half-Elves teeter between an exotic oddity and a cursed being. A lot of baggage comes with your lineage as a Half-Elf, revealing one's parent's doings with the Elven race. Some people think Half-Elves are fascinating for their Elven characteristics, but always treat them as foreigners to communities, as if they were never meant to belong. The more violent Humans who are racially divided against Elven hegemony see only frustration in these traitor's babies. Whereas someone with violent intent may never strike down an Elven superior for fear of retribution, little can be said for defenseless Half-Elves, as they curry little favor in any community.
Half-Elven conception of their place in Elven communities is more clear, if not more dower. Elven communities generally look down upon Half-Elves. Although individual communties may have more hearth for Half-Elves than others, they are generally looked at as unfortunate results of circumstances. They are seen as mongrels, not of true Elven heritage, and thus not deserving of the proud treatment they would give one of their own. Racism against Half-Elves is prevalent, although most Elves would never be so bold as to say it plainly. Instead, it comes in the form of rejection of employment or support. They are largely seen by their Elven peers as short-lived and uncivilized.
The one place where Half-Elven people shine is in moderation between Humans and Elves. Being passingly familiar with Elven culture, and usually being raised in Human culture, they can speak for Humans quite well in negotiations with larger Elven empires. Politicians of both races sometimes seek out outgoing Elves to represent one or the other in discussions for their unique perspectives.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Half-Elves are most numerous in Human communities. They are most notable in larger communities or cities. There are also high amounts of Half-Elves found in Elvish cities, due to their larger sizes and prominence.
